JaxView from Managed Methods provides developers and IT operations teams with broad visibility into the Web services messaging environment. This enables more efficient management of Web services and service-oriented architectures.

Visibility into Service Messaging

Improve Web services management, troubleshooting and debugging by gaining visibility into the XML-based service messaging space. With support for for both SOAP and REST-based services, JaxView provides you with a centralized Web services management portal for:

  • Viewing what services are deployed
  • Mapping service operations to service applications
  • Viewing individual service message exchanges between clients and service providers
  • Viewing service fault messages and errors
  • Verifying message schemas and content
  • Viewing business process composition in loosely-coupled environments

In addition, JaxView supports automated Web services management with the following:

Service Performance Monitoring

Improve management of the SOA or Web services environment with a centralized view of Web service operations and performance. JaxView enables you to see the system performance for individual service requests and responses. This helps you to identify performance issues to support change management and capacity planning. Using JaxView's baselining options can reduce event notification clutter by allowing event thresholds to be set relative to usage trends. Event thresholds can then be set relative to a standard deviation percentage from the baseline rather than an absolute value, resulting in fewer unintended event notifications. JaxView Enterprise includes the following baselining options:

  • Rolling Baseline - Compare current performance metrics with a statistical baseline calculated for a period of hours preceding the current period.
  • Weekly, Daily Baseline - Compare current performance metrics with performance baselines calculated for the same period day-over-day or week-over-week.
  • Specific Date Baseline - Compare current performance metrics with the metrics from a specific date.

SLA Management Functions

Supporting service level agreements (SLA's) is an important part of managing any online business service. JaxView provides tools to automate monitoring and reporting on service levels in the Web services environment including:

  • Monitoring and reporting client access and service usage rates
  • Per client service throughput
  • Per client monitoring of faults and error types
  • Service availability monitoring and reporting

Fault Management Functions

Efficient management of service failures requires visibility into fault messages generated by service providers. JaxView provides fault monitoring and reporting that includes:

  • Fault rate per service
  • Fault totals per time period
  • Fault type and content monitoring, including fault code and fault text string
  • Faults as a percentage of requests

Flexible Alerting Options

Facilitate system management by adapting JaxView alerts to your organization processes and needs. You can minimize redundant or false alarm alerting using statistical performance baselines.

JaxView generates event notification alerts when a monitored event threshold has been matched or exceeded. Alerts can be sent using the following media and protocols:

  • Email
  • Script Execution
  • SNMP
  • JMS
  • SOAP

Reporting Functions

JaxView improves management efficiency and visibility with reporting on performance, availability, and policy compliance in the service environment. JaxView has scheduled reports for preselected intervals and also supports on-demand reports that allow you to focus on custom time intervals. JaxView reports can be used to display:

  • Performance data in tabular and line chart formats
  • Usage and throughput summary
  • Individual error events and events as percentage of total requests
  • Fault totals and percentages for SLA reports
  • Performance and usage data per specific client

Autodiscovery of Services

Save time by using JaxView to automatically discover what Web services are active and being accessed in the service environment. With JaxView's agentless deployment options, you can uncover deployed services without installing messaging agents, accessing service application code, or installing a service proxy. In addition, you can save more time by configuring JaxView to automatically add service information and activate JaxView monitoring settings for each discovered service.

Service Availability Monitoring

JaxView helps you reduce risk by actively testing service availability with periodic "heartbeat" monitoring. This provides important visibility and reporting of service uptime essential for supporting service level agreements. JaxView can send Synthetic requests to individual services or a sequence of requests can be sent to a service composed of multiple service endpoints. Reports can be generated and message data can be audited to document service availability.

Multi-step Transaction Monitoring

Speed troubleshooting of composite business transactions by correlating performance bottlenecks or faults to individual services used in multi-step transactions. Proactively test and verify multi-step processes with transaction availability (heartbeat) monitoring that includes:

  • Monitoring generic Web service transactions with support for WS-Transaction, WS-Coordination
  • Step wise monitoring of response times and errors to reveal performance bottle necks within each instance of a transaction
  • Visibility into individual step fault or error information
  • Report on transaction commits or rollbacks
