JaxView from Managed Methods provides architects and IT operations teams with practical, cost-effective tools for monitoring and managing standards-based (SOAP) and REST Web services. JaxView is offered in three versions which togther offer capabilities for the following:
- Agentless Web Services Management
- In an agentless deployment, JaxView can monitor service activity using out-of-band data to minimize network load. This saves time and money as there is no need to install and maintain messaging agents or reconfigure services to route messaging through a proxy intermediary. In this mode, JaxView is able to automatically discover Web services, auto-configure management settings, and monitor usage, performance, and event incidents.
- Service Intermediary and Governance
- JaxView can be installed as a network intermediary or proxy to enable security for services, to broker messages, and to enforce runtime policies. This includes mediating between service endpoints, content-based message brokering, and enabling automated exception handling and service failover capabilities.
- Web Services Availability Monitoring
- For service "heartbeat" monitoring, JaxView acts as a service client to periodically send requests to a service endpoint to verify availability and function. This is an important aspect of service level management.
Each JaxView downloads and installs as a single package for ease of deployment. It is built on a thin-client, server-based application architecture that you access and manage using a Web browser.
JaxView at a Glance
The following diagrams provide a overview of the functionality that JaxView enables in service-oriented environments along with what place it occupies in the management of Web services.

For managing service-oriented environments and monitoring Web services, JaxView operates in the XML-based service messaging space. This represents the interaction between service providers and service clients. End-user monitoring solutions provide a view of service quality from the client perspective and back-end application monitoring solutions can provide information about underlying IT resources. JaxView provides important visibility into service performance, utilization, composition, and fault events in standards-based Web services operations.
